St. Patrick’s Day – Ireland

On the 17th of March each year, Ireland hosts a cultural and religious festival celebrating the patron saint of Ireland – St. Patrick and the arrival of Christianity to Ireland.

There’s nothing quite like celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in Ireland, there is green everywhere! The surprising history of how the colour became all things Irish dates back to the 19th century when waves of Irish immigrants travelled to America looking for better job opportunities (especially after the Great famine of the 1840s – 50s). They began wearing green and carrying Irish flags along with American flags as a point of pride for their home country.

Here at aranislandsknitwear.com we have knitwear in ”forty shades of green” that will suit any taste or budget.
