SAMHAIN
Samhain is a festival which marks the end of the harvest season and the beginning of the Winter season.
Held on the 1st of November but with celebrations beginning on the evening of 31st of October – Samhain was originally celebrated in Celtic times and is associated with many Pagan rituals such as gatherings, feasts, bonfires and sacrifices.
Samhain was seen as a time when the boundary between this world and the ‘Otherworld’ could more easily be crossed. Offerings were made to the spirits to ensure the people and their livestock survived the Winter.
Halloween is the modern incarnation of the Celtic festival of Samhain!
