GALWAY 2020 – European Capital Of Culture
Galway 2020 European Capital of Culture…
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to showcase the best cultural programme that Galway has to offer and to show the worlds greatest knitwear!
Throughout this Galway 2020 programme the themes of language, landscape and migration come to life. Structured around the old celtic calendar Imbolc, Bealtaine, Lughnasa and samhain.
What better way to celebrate our culture than with some Aran Knitwear. Aran knitting can be traced back to the time of the Book Of Kells where a picture of an aran sweater is depicted, meaning Aran style clothing was established before c.800 AD. The patterns were distinctly Celtic which closely resemble the Celtic artwork of the time. The Aran sweater is a unique work of art intricately knit using up to 60,000 individual stitches and can take up to 100 hours to knit.
Galway 2020 begins in February and runs through until the end of January 2021 and we can’t wait!
